These posters represent the last project of my foundation diploma, it was an open ended project which allowed me to explore many different aspects of illustration. The idea I decided to base the project around was a Brothers Grimm tale called 'The Three Army Surgeons'; which is a tale about three travelling army surgeons who claim to be the best in the land, so when they come across a tavern they place a bet with the bar-maid inside, that each of the three surgeons will removes an organ, and in the morning each of the surgeons will replace that given organ. Though in the night a cat comes and takes the organs from a cupboard where they were being kept, after seeing the organs gone the bar-maid tells her lover, a soldier to re-claim the organs. So the soldiers takes the eyes of a cat, the heart of a pig and the hand of a thief and brings them back to the tavern, when the surgeons re-attach the organs they realise that the re-attached organs don't work.
The original idea for the project was to illustrate the Brothers Grimm tale by traditional means, and present the illustration in the form of a book, though I changed this idea to silhouettes which was a relatively new area for me.
The silhouette designs didn't always use backgrounds and borders, but when I found the photos not engaging enough, I decided to add hand-made backgrounds with reference to silhouette artist 'Jan Pienkowski' and borders that I had created with reference from a recent trip to Berlin.

Trip to Berlin
Recently I visited Berlin, Mitte with Bedford College. Cheap beer and good food made it a great trip and would like to visit Berlin again when its not so cold.
